Weekend Roundup, Nov. 25-27

It won’t come as a surprise to you to hear that there’s lots more to eat and drink this weekend as the holiday season officially kicks off. So, loosen your belt buckle and get ready for some serious noshing!

Friday, Nov. 25

What: Luxembourg Ville’s Christmas market extravaganza. Music, mulled wine, food and shopping – what more could you possibly want? What? You’d like a special parade and appearance by old Saint Nick? When: November 25 to January 1
Where: On and around Place d’Armes and Place de Paris.

What: It’s described as the largest miniature nativity scene in the world, with more than 300 animated figurines set up over a 250 square meter area, in Luxembourg for the first time ever.
When: November 26 to January 15
Where: Home du Sacré-Coeur, rue du Fort Elisabeth, Luxembourg-Gare
Cost: Entry is 5€ for adults, 3€ for children.

Moules au Fiederweissen
What: Enjoy a winery dinner of mussels cooked in Fiederweissen, with all the frites you can eat.
Where: Domaine Henri Ruppert, 1 Markusberg in Schengen 
When: Nov. 25 and 26, at 7pm both evenings.
Cost: 18€ per person. Reserve your spot by calling (+352) 26 66 54 54 between 3pm and 9pm.

Expostion de Noël at Domaine Sunnen-Hoffmann
What: Join Domaine Sunnen-Hoffmann at their wine shop for some wine tasting and to peruse their hand-picked Christmas items available for purchase.
Where: Domaine Sunnen-Hoffmann, 76 route du Vin in Remerschen
When: Nov. 25-27. On Friday from 2pm to 7pm and on Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 12pm and 2pm to 7pm

What: Tour the Luxembourg Moselle wine region in one day as 41 winemakers offer samples of their wines for you to discover and enjoy. Watch 12 wine industry professionals vie for the title of 2011 Best Sommelier of Luxembourg on Saturday from 3-5pm, or take the kiddos on Sunday for family day, where kids’ activities will be on offer for free between 2-5pm. When: November 25-27. On Friday, November 25 between 4pm and 9pm; Saturday, November 26 between 2pm and 7pm; and on Sunday, November 27 between 2pm and 7pm.
Where: On the Glacis (the large car park at the Schuman roundabout), beneath the circus tent.
Cost: Free to enter, 5€ for a souvenir glass and unlimited wine tastings. 

Saturday, Nov. 26

What: Walk around the world in a matter of hours at the 51st annual International Bazaar. More than 57 nations will be represented at stands selling grocery items and food to eat on site. I haven’t been yet, but I hear the free samples are incredible… (Americans: think Costco on steroids.) More information from the Wort/English here
When: November 26 & 27. On Saturday from 11am to 7pm and Sunday from 10am to 6pm.
Where: Luxexpo

What: If you’re in the mood for a night of fanciness, fashion and beauty, you can take part in watching Luxembourg’s annual beauty pageant to elect Miss and Mister Luxembourg
When: Saturday, Nov. 26 at 7pm
Where: Namur, 2 rue de Bitbourg in Luxembourg Ville
Cost: It’s a steep chunk of change at 180€ per ticket, but it includes an aperitif, three courses and unlimited wine. And really, can you even put a price on beauty??
