Weekend Roundup, Dec. 9-11 (and beyond)

This is the last weekend roundup of the year – and my very last appearance on Sara Flanagan’s 9-11am block on ARA City Radio (103.3 & 105.2). Please feed my ego one last time (on the radio, anyway...) and tune in!

A few events for this weekend follow below...but we all know that the real stars of the show this time of year are the Christmas markets. So, be sure to check out my Christmas Market Roundup, a compilation of dates and links to markets throughout Luxembourg and along the French, German and Belgian borders. 


Friday, December 9

What: Sniff, sip, savor, swallow, repeat. Four wines available for tasting from the line of Italian winemaker LeFabriche.
Where: Green Art Café, at the Museum of Natural History in Lux Ville
When: December 9 at 6:30pm
Cost: 15€. Reservations are required, so e-mail info@greenart.lu or call 27 47 88 77.

What: Dads of Luxembourg: hand your credit cards over to your wives and children and let them do the holiday shopping this weekend while you indulge your inner dude at a car show.
Where: Luxexpo
When: Friday from 1pm-8pm, Saturday from 10am-8pm and Sunday from 10am-7pm
Cost: 15€ for adults, 12€ for ages 8-18, kids under 8 enter for free

Saturday, December 10

What: Get in the holiday spirit by taking in the harmony of performers from 22 nations singing together. Check out their web site for some free samples of their work.
When: December 10 at 7:45pm at the Église paroissiale de Bonnevoie, or December 11 at the Église de Koerich at 5pm.
Cost: Entrance is free, but they’ll be collecting money for charity so be sure to take some cash.

What: More than 150 artists, jewelry-makers, painters, sculptors, clothing-makers are on hand to sell their wares while you stroll about enjoying the atmosphere and a long lineup of musical and other performances. View the agenda here.
When: Saturday, Dec. 10 from 2pm to midnight; Sunday Dec. 11 from 10am-8pm
Where: Alstom (cultural building), 50 rue Oberlin in Nancy
Don’t forget: CFL offers a special one day Saar-Lor-Lux ticket on weekends for one to five people on the same ticket – a great way to get to Nancy and back on the cheap.

Sunday, December 11

What: The annual Luxembourg Ville Christmas parade, full of dancers, characters, and a special appearance by a certain Mr. Claus himself. This parade is not to be confused with the other, non-original Christmas parades, of course…
Where: Down the Avenue de la Libertie
When: Activities and entertainment on stages by the Gëlle Fra (Place de la Constitution) and Rousegärtchen (Ave. de la Libertie) start at 3pm, the parade begins by the Gëlle Fra at 5pm. Click here to view the parade route.

What: Kids ages 8 and up are invited to drop in to a design-your-own-tree workshop. They’ll be able to decorate their own small wooden tree and play with electricity at the same time as they attach an electrical circuit to the tree to give their creation real lights. Don’t worry, parents – it’s supervised.
Where: Musée Tudor, 9 rue Henri Tudor, in Rosport
When: Sunday, Dec. 11 between 2 and 5pm. The workshop lasts 30-45 minute.
Cost: 5€ + regular 4€ museum admission fare for accompanying adults

What: Kids get crafty by creating their own spinning Christmas tree ornament.
When: Sunday, Dec. 11 from 2pm-5pm
Where: Kulturhuef, 54 route de Treves, in Grevenmacher
Cost: Free, no reservation required. Workshops available in French, German, English and Luxembourgish.

What: Retail stores in Luxembourg Ville are open on Sundays for your holiday shopping pleasure.
When: December 11, 18 from 2pm until 6pm

And Beyond…

What: 1 day + 1 street + 6 designers = you’re a hero for finding awesome, one-of-a-kind holiday gifts for family and friends.
When: December 15, 9:30am – 6pm
Where: Rue des Capucins in Luxembourg Ville

What: Sashay your way over to the Christmas Crochet workshop to learn how to make your own Christmas baubles, mistletoes or hearts. Who wouldn’t love a holiday gift that’s made by you? You might give away your bauble, but you’ll get to keep your new crocheting skillz.
When: December 19, 6:30pm to 8:30pm
Where: Café Konrad, 6 rue du Nord in Lux Ville
Cost: 40€ per person, or 65€ if you take a friend (that’s 32,50€ each for the math-challenged)
